Can you survive in the darkness?
You can complete Yellowcreek Stories in about an hour, and I usually try not to comment on price, but for what it’s charging, I don’t think it’s worth the money. It probably is worth about half of what they are charging, as this really feels like a demo or first level of a bigger experience. What frustrates me about this game is that I think it obviously grasps horror, but it's wrapped in such a generic package that the small runtime really hurts it. All aspects of this title have been done so many times before and much, much better.
Yellowcreek Stories: The Cabin Watcher doesn’t do well when trying to build suspense. After the initial first couple of tasks, everything just moves so fast. Hell, even the killer does not do what the title says and even “watch” the cabin. He just goes for it. The price tag seems a little steep for something that isn’t even an hour long. So I’m going to give Yellowcreek Stories: The Cabin Watcher, the Thumb Culture Bronze Award. If it is a first episode, it wasn’t one that pulled me in.
Horror sounds can be hit or miss, and sadly, for the most part, a lot of horror games today rely on over-the-top loud screaming and noises to instil fear. Luckily, Yellowcreek Stories – The Cabin Watcher doesn’t fall into this category. It has nicely timed sounds at the moment to strike fear, and an over-chilling sound to keep the slasher vibe.
