I'd like to rename the game Dead by Boredom.
The premise of the game is that there is 1 killer and 4 survivors. The survivors have to activate 4 generators and then the exit and then you win. The killer, well, kills.
The problem is that the generators take a really long time. This wouldn't be bad, except they make you do QTE's and the QTE's are horrible. It is a progress bar and you have to hit space at a random time, and the timing is stupid tight. If you have even a tiny bit of lag, forget hitting them. Sometimes they also just insta-fail you as if the time to hit it was a second before it spawned or something.
Oh, and when you fail the QTE? The killer is informed of your location and you lose progress on the bar. Horrible design. I'm pretty sure that mechanic is to make it so you feel fear or suspense or something that the killer is going to find you. All I feel is frustration and boredom.
It is sad and telling when the best strategy for survivors is to literally ***** over your fellow teammates and hide the whole game. This is because there is a hatch that spawns that allows insta-escape but only when there is one survivor left. Also, if you die, you don't get credit for winning.
Oh, right, there is a perk that allows you to not inform the killer when you fail a QTE. But guess what? You have to pay for it. Oh, right, there are perks and items, but they are kinda useless for the most part.
Even not considering the above, the game is super bias towards the killer. They run faster than you. They have special abilities. If they hit you once, you are wounded. You can be healed by another player, but that same stupid QTE mechanic is involved there too. If you get hit while wounded, you are prone and the killer can carry you to a hook. You can wiggle off the killer, but probably don't have enough time to. Once the killer hooks you, you get a chance to get off yourself, but you take dmg if you fail and the chance is low. Low enough health (or times on the hook) and it sends you into another phase where you have to spam space to keep from dying while your health drops.
A player can get you off the hook, but guess what the best strategy is for killers? Camp you once you are on the hook. This way, they can easily take down anyone that comes for you, or you if someone succeeds in freeing you. There is an unwritten rule in the community that the killer doesn't camp, but most do anyways. If the killer is camping you, you may as well just let the hook kill you.
So the core gameplay for survivors is sitting watching a really slow progress bar and doing random stupidly-tight QTE's while hoping Mr/Mrs Overpowered doesn't find you. Boring.
Skip this game unless some major major changes are made.
