Shantae: Half-Genie Hero - Ultimate Edition Reviews
Shantae: Half-Genie Hero has a ton of content and most of it is worth your time. The game features awesome visuals, great music, and spot-on controls. The witty dialog and humorous story make for an entertaining experience that won’t be forgotten.
The base game is excellent and the inclusion of the different modes and DLC is cool too, but it is a shame that the majority of these additions are just lazy reskins of the base game.
Half-Genie Hero is a solid platformer with great presentation and music, but it also feels a tad generic and lacks variety and genuine creativity in its level design. Compared to other games on Switch like Donkey Kong and Super Mario Odyssey, it's easily the weakest - and you should definitely check out the others before teaming up with Shantae and her friends.

Overall, assuming you don’t mind the variations on a theme, this is a remarkably deep and well-made package for what amounts to being a budget price per title. Each major mode takes the same base elements and then adds a unique layer of its own, making the challenges feel quite different. There’s an enormous amount of punny humor in the dialogue that prompted some laughs, and it’s pretty incredible how well the mix of platforming, action, and puzzles blend together into one package. If you’ve somehow held off on Shantae until now this Ultimate Edition is an incredibly good place to start.
Looking at it now, there’s no denying that the amount of quality, complementary content here is staggering.
