Pokemon GO's annual Christmas event is back, giving players the chance to catch a lot of seasonal Pokemon, such as the Pikachu line with seasonal hats.
Starting today, players will see plenty of Pokemon that go along with the season. Those who have a 7km egg could hatch a Pichu in a beanie or a Stantler with bells. Raid targets can be a Raichu with a beanie, or a Stantler wearing bells. Beanie Pikachus can be found in the field. All of these special holiday Pokemon can be found in both standard and shiny varieties. Other ice Pokemon will have increased spawn rates as well.
New Pokemon can also be found in the field. Trainers will be able to catch Cryogonal and Cubchoo for the first time. While these two Pokemon can be found anywhere in the field, placing a Glacial Lure can help bring them in. Cubchoo can be evolved into a Beartic. There is new event field research that can reward the player with a Cubchoo. Players will also be able to find shiny Snover and Abomasnow throughout the 2019 holiday season.
There are a number of other events happening during the holiday season. Team rocket now have the Christmas-themed Delibird as a Shadow Pokemon. Players will be able to buy new clothing for their avatars. The first time that gamers spin any PokeStop each day, they will be rewarded with a single-use Incubator. Trainers will be able to carry and open twice as many gifts than usual. There will also be bonus perks throughout the days of the event:
- December 24th - 25th: Double Candy
- December 26th - 27th: Double Stardust
- December 28th - 29th: Double XP for catching a Pokemon
- December 30th - January 1st: Halved egg hatching walking distance
