Two Sources Report Konami is Planning a Silent Hill Reboot

As Resident Evil has been totally revitalized over the past three years, Silent Hill fans have had to sit and watch as the other major horror franchise of the past 30 years has been left in the dark for nearly a decade now. However, according to two different sources, Konami is now planning a series reboot, and maybe even planning more than one game.

AestheticGamer, who, in 2019, first broke the news of Resident Evil 3 being real and nearer than some may expect, is now reporting Konami has not one but two Silent Hill games in development. One is a "soft-reboot of the franchise" while the other is "an episodic TellTale/Until Dawn-style game." It's his assumption that one or both of these may be unveiled in 2020, though he differentiates between that speculation and his sourced information. Here's his full statement spanning several tweets:

"In other news while I’m dropping this stuff, and I think I can talk about this, I’ll mention there is a couple new Silent Hill games in the works. Konami about two years ago reached out to various developers to pitch ideas for two Silent Hill games, one a soft-reboot of the franchise, the other an episodic TellTale/Until Dawn-style game to go alongside the reboot.

I don’t know anything more than that though, but I sure do hope Konami’s given it the appropriate budget and found the right developer to make those games succeed.

This is just a guess, but I’d say there’s a high chance one or both of those titles may be revealed this year, but we’ll see. I don’t actually know their plans or anything about these games other than their existence though, I don’t know much about the inner workings of Konami."

It's worth noting that AestheticGamer was also the first to reveal details about Resident Evil 7's DLC plans, so he's been right multiple times before.

After AestheticGamer shared this information publicly, RelyOnHorror, an appropriately reliable horror gaming site also revealed they've heard from one source that Konami is working on a new Silent Hill game, though they didn't mention a second title coming from the publisher.

The last we heard of Silent Hill came in 2015 with the PlayStation-exclusive PT, which turned out to be a mind-bending "playable teaser" for what was supposed to be Hideo Kojima's Silent Hills, a sequel to the series which he was working on with Norman Reedus and Guillermo Del Toro. After Kojima's unceremonious exit from Konami, the trio went on to work together on Death Stranding, while the publisher has since done little in the game space outside of Metal Gear Survive and the continuing PES soccer series.
