Chaotic Co-op Game Moving Out Is Dated for April

Moving Out is heading to consoles, including Switch, Xbox, and PS4 as well as PC on April 28, says its publisher Team17. The Overcooked-like game puts players in teams of up to four players and tasks them with moving furniture out of homes of various shapes and sizes.

The colorful game features oblong couches, heavy desks, fragile lamps, and more, and players are rated based on how swiftly and carefully they can pack up.The co-developers at SMG Studio and DEVM Games have also built into the game many accessibility options including a scalable UI, dyslexia-friendly menu options, customizable difficulty, and several control schemes for consoles.

Those on Steam can even fully customize the layout. Along with the release date reveal comes a new trailer that shows off the frantically paced game.

Like Overcooked, players can choose from a wide range of characters including humans, some of whom are in wheelchairs, and animals like cats and dogs. There’s even a character with a toaster for a head if you’re interested in that sort of thing.

Moving Out is unabashedly influenced by Overcooked and it’s not the only game as of late to find itself taking cues from the award-winning multiplayer game. Overcooked has already spawned its own sequel in addition to inspiring other games such as Tools Up, and Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime also predates any of them and offers a similar style of pandemonium. It’s likely Moving Out won’t be the last in a line of chaotic co-op games -- can that be a genre?

If Moving Out is to usurp Overcooked as the king of the subgenre, it’ll have big shoes to fill. Overcooked and its sequel are both rated “Strong” on OpenCritic with dozens of critics recommending each game. Perhaps for the first time ever, people will want to help their friends move.
