Half-Life: Alyx will release at the end of March.
It has been announced that Half-Life: Alyx will release on March 23rd. Valve made the announcement for the release date on Twitter, keeping in line with their statement that the game would not be delayed. They also announced that pre-order bonuses for those who pre-ordered a Valve Index will start to roll out on the week of March 2nd. This will begin with Steam VR Home environments inspired by locations in Half-Life: Alyx. It was stated that more news on upcoming Valve Index availability will come soon.
Half-Life: Alyx will put players in the shoes of Alyx Vance as she works with her father in order to form a resistance against The Combine. The game takes place between Half-Life and Half-Life 2. Half-Life: Alyx will be the first game to release for the series since 2007, after Half-Life 2: Episode 2. It will be compatible with most VR headsets, including the Valve Index, HTC Vive, and Oculus Rift S.
Much like the older games, Half-Life: Alyx will combine puzzles, combat, and story. The game is reportedly 15 hours long, and will make full use of virtual controls, including the ability to summon objects into players outstretched palms. Players will also be able to take apart headcrabs limb-by-limb, rummage through shelves, and toss bottles out a window to distract enemies. The game will support mods, as the title will come with a set of Source 2 tools that will allow players to build new environments for the community to enjoy.
In order to help players get ready for the release of Half-Life: Alyx, all of the Half-Life games are free on Steam. This includes Half-Life, Half-Life 2, and Half-Life 2: Episode 1 and 2. The games will be available on Steam until Alyx releases.
Half-Life: Alyx will be available on Steam on March 23rd. Those who pre-order the game on Steam will get 10% off.
