God of War co-creator David Jaffe has been a big Starfield supporter ever since the game launched in 2023. Back then, he proudly stated that it was in his "top three games of all time". And two years later, little has changed.

Jaffe recently said that Starfield has "one of the best singleplayer narratives in gaming" (thanks, Pure Xbox). That's a bold claim, especially given all the criticism directed at Bethesda's tentpole RPG. Many fans were frustrated with its "fetch quest snooze fest" pacing, arguing that the "repetitive-ness of locations", "extremely dry" dialogue, and lack of "edge" made the whole thing "boring".

Nothing to hate on. I adore this game; one of the best single player narratives in gaming ever. Perhaps THE Best IMO.

These issues were only exacerbated in the Shattered Space expansion, which sits at a "Mostly Negative" review score on Steam. Nonetheless, Jaffe remains steadfast in his claim that there's "nothing to hate on".

Starfield lead writer and design lead Emil Pagliarulo likewise put Starfield on a lofty pedestal last year, arguing that it's the "best game [Bethesda has] ever made".
