Scopley, best known for the popular mobile game Monopoly Go!, has agreed to acquire Niantic, the developer behind Pokemon Go, Pikmin Bloom, and the mobile Monster Hunter game Monster Hunter Now. The deal, which is valued at $3.5 billion, confirms a report from last month.
All of Niantic's properties now fall under Scopley's umbrella. They include Pokemon Go, which still boasts over 20 million weekly active players, Pikmin Bloom, Monster Hunter Now, Campfire, and Wayfarer.
Niantic will spin its technology platform into a new standalone entity called Niantic Spatial Inc., led by John Hanke, Niantic's founder and CEO.
“Niantic games have always been a bridge to connect people and inspire exploration, and I am confident they will continue to do both as part of Scopely," Hanke said. “Scopely shares our focus on building and operating incredible live services, has exceptional experience working with the world's biggest and most beloved intellectual properties, and cares deeply about its player communities and game-making teams."
