Eidos Montreal, the studio behind multiple Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, and Marvel games, has announced that "up to 75" people from its workforce will be laid off in the near future. This is the second consecutive year in which Eidos Montreal has endured job cuts, having been through a similar setback in the recent past.
In the last few years, the news about layoffs has unfortunately been a regular occurrence, owing to some very tough times for the gaming industry. During this period, an array of studios of various sizes have either completely shut shop or have resorted to relieving some of their employees to ensure survival. The widespread job cuts have not only affected studios whose games have struggled but also impacted, to a degree, those developers who have recently experienced major success, such as the Marvel Rivals team. Most recently, the Canadian developer responsible for making well-received hits, such as Deus Ex: Mankind Divided and Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, joined this list, and not for the first time.
