The first major PlayStation 5 event will happen later this week.

On the PlayStation Blog, it was revealed that the PlayStation 5 event that was supposed to take place last week will instead happen this Thursday, June 11th. The event will begin at 1 p.m. PST. According to Senior Director of SIE Content Communications Sid Shuman, this will be a pre-taped event that will be broadcast at 1080p and 30 frames per second. He stated that making this a pre-taped show eased the event's production process as many of the team and developers behind it are working from home. Shuman did say that the games we see later this week will look better when they are played on a PlayStation 5 on a 4K television when they release.

Shuman also suggested that those who watch the event should wear headphones. According to him, there will be cool audio work during the show, and that it might be harder to appreciate the sounds without headphones.

This Thursday's PlayStation 5 event was supposed to happen on June 4th. However, Sony delayed the event due to the civil unrest that has been taking place lately due to the death of George Floyd. The company stated that last week was not the time for such a celebration, and that they wanted to stand back while more important voices were heard.

According to an earlier blog post, President and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment stated that the PlayStation 5 event will be around an hour long. It will be the first official showcasing for the upcoming console. The show will feature a number of games that are coming to the platform when it releases later this year, giving us a taste of what to expect for Sony's new console.

The PlayStation 5 is still set to release sometime this holiday season alongside the Xbox Series X.
