For many fans of the legendary studio, the future of BioWare seems uncertain. After the high-profile underperformance of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, which performed well critically but was subsequently lambasted by fans, BioWare underwent a round of layoffs.
In addition to these layoffs, a plethora of senior developers were permanently relocated to other Electronic Arts-owned studios, such as The Veilguard's creative director, John Epler, who is now at Full Circle working on Skate.
That's not to mention the round of layoffs that happened before the release of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, which included long-time writers Mary Kirby and Lukas Kristjanson.
In the wake of February's layoffs, IGN reported that BioWare now has fewer than 100 employees. This represents a massive decrease in the number of employees at BioWare, which reportedly had over 200 staff just a couple of years ago.
The remainder of BioWare is currently working on the next instalment in the Mass Effect series, often referred to as Mass Effect 5. This project is headed by Michael Gamble, a BioWare veteran who has been involved with the series since Mass Effect 2.
