Skyrim is 14 years old, meaning there hasn't been a new mainline Elder Scrolls game in a generation. Sure, some of the kids who grew up on it might have gone back and tried older entries in the series (hi), or dabbled in the MMO, but a lot of fans will have either moved on as they waited for TES 6, or kept playing every new Skyrim re-release.
For the fans who have been waiting, but haven't dipped their toes into the rest of the series, the Oblivion remaster may as well be a new entry. "If you never played Oblivion before, TES 6 basically dropped a week ago," u/gnpking said. "Modern graphics, new systems that I've never encountered, and a brand new story. I'm having a fu**ing blast."
Oblivion fans are urging the community not to pit the game against Skyrim.
With 1,700 upvotes, it's a sentiment that many in the community clearly share, with some, like u/Mysterious_Action_83, even saying that it'll make the wait for the next game a lot easier: "This will tie me off for years until TES 6." Hopefully, the wait won't be that long, but a few years in Cyrodiil doesn't sound so...
