Indie darling Stardew Valley is... getting up there in years. The game is approaching its 10th anniversary, and people still love it to this day. When a game like this is so old and so popular, people start thinking about sequels.
Eric 'ConcernedApe' Barone, the creator of Stardew Valley, has been having those exact thoughts - but is somewhat conflicted on the idea. Turns out, updating an existing beloved game is both easier and a bit more fun than building a new one from scratch!
"It's all the systems — all the major systems — are already all done." Barone said in an interview with TigerBelly. "That’s the stuff that’s not fun to do. When I make an update, it’s like, you know, oh, throw in this, throw in that. Let’s add green rain — like, these random, whimsical ideas."
IGN notes that Barone's latest game dev project - Haunted Chocolatier - is an attempt to branch out a bit more. Barone doesn't want to just be known as the 'Stardew Valley guy', and working your way out of that game's shadow is no small task.
