While we already know a film based on The Legend of Zelda is in the works, it appears that Nintendo has another major property that's about to receive the film treatment soon.
As the title indicates, it's a film based on the most famous video game ape of all time, Donkey Kong.

The date of recordation is mentioned as June 6, 2025, and the filing is by Nintendo Studios LLC, with Universal Pictures also mentioned. The registration is for "Untitled Donkey Kong Project; Motion picture," which squashes any doubt about what this project is.
With The Super Mario Bros. Movie grossing over $1.3 billion at the box office with just a $100 million budget, Nintendo, Universal, and Illumination must be frothing at the mouth at the prospect of all the untapped Nintendo franchises that could earn billions for the companies.
A sequel to the Super Mario Bros. movie is in development and is scheduled for release in April 2026.
