What Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds’s Switch 2 Delay Says About the Future of Physical Games

Sonic Racing CrossWorlds won’t be on Switch 2 at launch, but it’s not all bad news for the port.

On most platforms, the game will be releasing on September 25, but we knew from early on that the version on the new console wouldn’t be releasing day and date with the others, instead slated for “holiday 2025.”

Owners of the game on the original Switch will be able to purchase an upgrade to the proper Switch 2 version for $10 once it’s released, and their progress will carry over if they do.

However, one thing that has not been clear about the Switch 2 port is whether or not it will use a controversial game key card, or if the whole game will be present on the cartridge, but Sega has finally cleared the issue up.

Today, Sega released an FAQ dedicated to the Switch 2 version of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds that aims to address some of the confusion surrounding the port.
