Ghost of Yotei Directors Talk About Comparisons With Assassin's Creed Shadows

Sucker Punch Productions’ directors, Nate Fox and Jason Connell, have recently talked about the inescapable comparisons between the upcoming Ghost of Yotei and the recent Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Ghost of Yotei will be released on October 2, and with AC Shadows’ launch earlier this year, it’s essentially impossible not to compare both games set in the final days of Feudal Japan.

Released by Sucker Punch in 2020, Ghost of Tsushima was a big hit, selling over 13 million units since then. The success led to the announcement of Ghost of Yotei during the PlayStation State of Play in September 2024. The upcoming sequel will be set 300 years after Ghost of Tsushima, and it will feature a new protagonist called Atsu.

Ghost of Yotei's new weapons give Atsu a versatility not seen in Ghost of Tsushima, and has some lessons for Star Wars: Jedi's Cal Kestis.

Now, Ghost of Yotei’s co-creative directors, Nate Fox and Jason Connell, were interviewed by Game Informer, talking about details of the upcoming open-world game. During the interview, they were asked what they thought of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, and if they were afraid of comparisons. Connell responded that creators can either “kind of freeze up”...
