The Dark Pictures Anthology: Directive 8020 is an upcoming sci-fi horror game that was originally set to release in October 2025, but will now be delayed until 2026 as British video game developer Supermassive Games has just announced they will be making another round of layoffs.
The video game industry is being hit by waves of studio closures, layoffs, and canceled projects, and Supermassive Games states their cuts are part of a redundancy consultation process. "This decision was not taken lightly, and we know this will be an incredibly difficult time for everyone. Our absolute priority will be to offer full support to all those affected."
There's been a long list of layoffs in the gaming world recently, including some big names such as Microsoft, Ubisoft, EA, and King, the developers of Candy Crush. As the industry continues to evolve, and many companies are injecting artificial intelligence into their development process, Supermassive Games says the decision to make cuts is vital to staying ahead of the curve.
