We know the Switch 2 has sold incredibly well, but it’s set records for the whole gaming industry.
The console famously surpassed its predecessor’s first month sales in a matter of days, ultimately doubling it with a total of some 5.4 million units sold within its first month.
Such monumental sales numbers have had a strong impact on the gaming industry in the US in particular, according to Mat Piscatella of industry analytics firm Circana, who posted a thread on Bluesky going over the numbers.
Not only was the Switch 2 the fastest-selling game console of all time in the US, but consumer spending for game hardware and accessories reached an all-time high for the month of June.
Pulling Impressive Numbers
US consumer spending on video games, hardware, and accessories for June 2025 was up a staggering 22% from last year. The annual spending to date is lower than this time last year by 2%, but trending upward after last month.
The games on the Switch 2 have also been performing well, with Mario Kart World taking third place in best-selling games for the month, behind Elden Ring: Nightreign and Death Stranding 2, not even counting digital sales,...
