When you think of the most iconic couples in gaming, a few will probably spring to mind. You've got Link and Zelda, Geralt and Yennefer, or Tidus and Yuna if you're a JRPG enjoyer like myself, but the most iconic of them has to be Mario and Princess Peach, right? They've been at each other's side for the best part of thirty years, and Peach has given Mario more pecks on the cheek than a particularly hungry pigeon.
It's never explicitly stated that the two are a couple, but Nintendo's marketing over the years, and Mario's general disregard for his own wellbeing to go and save her whenever she's been kidnapped, kind of implies it. Unfortunately, though, it seems our favorite plumber has been strung along this entire time.
First shared by a Twitter user called KirPinkFury (thanks GamesRadar), Nintendo dropped a bombshell on its daily news app - Nintendo Today - by claiming that Mario and Peach are simply "good friends and help each other out whenever they can". If that's the case, then someone needs to tell Mario because I'm not so sure that he's aware.
