Turn-Based Stranger Things-Like Echo Generation Gets a Demo on Xbox and PC

on | OpenCritic

If you like Stranger Things and turn-based combat, I've got just the game for you. Cococucumber's Echo Generation is now available to play as a limited-time demo, but you'll want to act fast. It's not going to be around long. The demo will disappear next Tuesday, December 15.

Until then, it's a part of The Game Awards Festival, where select games are receiving an added spotlight in the run-up to their releases. Think of it as the Steam Games Festival or the similar Xbox demo event from earlier this year. In fact, this year's Game Awards Festival is a repeat of last year's event - with different games, of course.

Echo Generation is a turn-based adventure game "where a gang of kids investigate supernatural occurrences to save their small town," and yes, it would appear that description is as Stranger Things as it can get on purpose. Of course, Stranger Things wasn't the first nor the last to deliver such a premise, but it is currently the biggest.

The free demo includes the first chapter of the game from the team behind last year's kid-friendly Diablo-like Riverbond. Here's more from Cococucumber themselves:

"When no adult seems to notice the mutant rats, spooky animatronics, and other bizarre creatures haunting a small Canadian town, fearless youngsters jump into action. It’s time to pack some snacks, grab a hockey stick and defeat some monsters."

The game will run in 4K resolution at 60 frames per second on Xbox Series X and similarly spec'd PCs, while on Xbox Series S it will run at 1080p. You can play the demo anytime this week before it departs on December 15, then look for the full release on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC via Steam in 2021.
