For years, Shenmue 3 was talked about with as much longing as Half-Life 3. Then, in 2015, it was announced that the cult classic series was back, and its Kickstarter raised $2 million in less than a day. Shenmue 3 launched in 2019, but it didn't exactly set the world on fire as many would have hoped.
Rather than closing out a story that started all the way back in 1999, Shenmue 3 just kept things going, meaning we're still waiting for the tale to come to a close. After it appeared that the sales weren't too great either, many feared that the story would never end, but now, there's some life in the Shenmue series after all.
Shenmue 3 is getting re-released as Shenmue 3: Enhanced, introducing a bunch of improvements, both technical and quality-of-life related, and finally ending the PlayStation console exclusivity. Shenmue 3: Enhanced will come to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and a Nintendo platform (either the Switch or Switch 2 - or both), and opens up the possibility for that long-awaited fourth Shenmue instalment to be made a reality.
