Pokemon has been revealing new Mega Evolutions on the road to Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and last month, the unveiling of Mega Dragonite went down like a lead balloon. That put a lot of pressure on yesterday's Mega Victreebel reveal, and despite it being one of the weirder Pokemon designs I have ever seen, the praise, combined with excitement and even fan art, seems to put me firmly in the minority.
The trailer that ended with Mega Victreebel's reveal played like a horror movie, but ended with the reassurance that the new Mega Evolution and its owner were just training. Mega Victreebel is significantly bigger than regular Victreebel, which is in keeping with other Mega Evolutions, and filled with so much sweet-smelling acid that it needs to tie a vine around its neck just to contain it.
As I watched the trailer for the first time on Thursday, I feared we were about to see another Mega Dragonite situation, but I was wrong.
