Don't Expect Psychonauts 3 Or Brutal Legend 2 From Double Fine Any Time Soon

Double Fine lead Tim Schafer has confirmed that the studio is going to be working on more original games for the foreseeable future, instead of sequels like Psychonauts 3 or Brutal Legend 2.

When Psychonauts 2 was confirmed to be in development nearly a decade ago, it was a huge moment for Double Fine fans. Not only because we'd finally be getting more Psychonauts (one of the best 3D platformers out there), but because the studio was making its first-ever fully-fledged sequel.

Double Fine has been known for wanting to create smaller and original titles over diving into the same worlds over and over again, which made Psychonauts 2 a big surprise. Considering what a massive success it ended up being, you'd think it might rethink its stance on sequels somewhat, but that apparently isn't the case.

As pointed out by Gamespot, Double Fine CEO Tim Schafer recently spoke to IGN during Gamescom 2025 about its next game, Keeper. When asked about what else Double Fine has on its plate right now, Schafer noted that the team is working on "multiple projects" right now, and confirmed that they're all original IPs.
