Almost Two Decades Later, The Goons In Lego Batman Have Received A Major Glow-Up

One of the more surprising announcements from Tuesday's gamescom Opening Night Live was that a new Lego Batman game is coming in 2026. It's not just any old Lego Batman game, but one that will seemingly incorporate Batman Arkham-style combat, and, like the Skywalker Saga before it, will take players on a journey throughout Batman's storied history.

For those who've been playing Lego Batman games for a long time, one thing immediately stuck out from the reveal trailer, and it's that the Goons in the game have received a massive glow-up to more modern Lego standards.

From 2008, when the first Lego Batman game arrived, to now, in 2025, the basic Goon has upgraded its wardrobe to have a textured beanie, gloves and a jacket.

It's a pretty nice callback, particularly as the original Lego Batman games see a bump in popularity from those itching for a bit of nostalgia. That said, not everything is as cheery in the Lego Batman realm.

Following the initial announcement, it was later confirmed that the game would only feature seven playable characters, none of which are the Lego take on Heath Ledger's iconic Joker or Bane from The Dark Knight Rises....
