Former Dragon Age producer Mark Darrah has been giving us a lot of nuggets about the series on his YouTube channel. With the terrible reception that Veilguard received, Darrah's videos have had us reminiscing of the glory days of the series, with bits of information about the games themselves, as well as what went on behind the scenes.
In one of his latest videos' Darrah spoke about the different classes in Dragon Age: Origins, and why mages were way more powerful than other classes like rogues or fighters. He revealed that the mage class was the most well-rounded and complete class in the game. It also helps that everyone's favourite character, Morrigan, was also a mage.
While we all chose Morrigan to join our party for several reasons, it also helped that she was a ridiculously powerful mage (thanks, PC Gamer). Darrah explained that this difference in power levels between mages and other classes was due to BioWare taking inspiration from Dungeons & Dragons. "I would say it's more because the design space that Dragon Age: Origins was being built into was heavily influenced by second edition D&D," he said.
