It always bothered me that Overwatch never got a TV series. Those early cinematic shorts were some of the best video game adaptations we had ever seen up until that point. Blizzard had gold on its hands with the game's incredibly charming cast already laying the groundwork for a show. But it never happened. League of Legends and Castlevania beat it to the punch, setting a new bar that, in another world, Overwatch easily could have.
Maybe it's not too late, though. In a recent interview with GameSpot, Overwatch 2 director Aaron Keller was asked whether he'd be interested in following in Arcane's footsteps with an animated adaptation—and, as it turns out, he's just as eager as the rest of us.
"The team would love to have something like that come out," Keller said. "You know, we're also fans of those shows and fans of those universes. To have something like that for Overwatch would be really, really cool. But I can't really discuss the plans for future stuff like that."
If reports are to be believed, then we came incredibly close to an Overwatch TV series back in 2020. Bloomberg's Jason Schreier alleged that Blizzard was working with Netflix...
