Almost 12 years after the launch of the PlayStation 4, its hardware limitations are sure to catch up with modern games. While newer launches being exclusive to current-gen consoles makes sense, the growth of long-running live service games could also be shackled by the hardware.

We've already seen the likes of PUBG and Genshin Impact announce that they will soon end service for the PS4 versions of the game, meaning players will need to move to PS5, PC, or Xbox Series X|S in order to continue playing. Unfortunately, it looks like one of the most beloved MMO's of all time may soon run into the same issue as well.

Launched around the same time as the PS4, Final Fantasy 14 has grown leaps and bounds since then, with numerous expansions and collaborations. However, due to this growth, the game might soon hit a wall thanks to the console's hardware limitations. While Naoki "Yoshi-P" Yoshida does not want to end the game's service on the PS4, there may eventually be no other choice.
