Last month, Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier claimed that Sony Santa Monica's next project is "not a new IP", fuelling speculation that the studio has been working on a new God of War game. After all, the only other IP that the team has under its belt is the obscure PS2 game Kinetica.
It reportedly isn't sci-fi, either.
However, it doesn't have to be a Sony Santa Monica IP, and may instead be a licensed game, forging a new partnership as Insomniac did with Marvel. So, it's still unclear what the unannounced project might be. But a new job listing seems to support the idea that the team is returning to the God of War series.
As reported by The Game Post, Sony PlayStation's greenhouse page listed a new job ad last week for a senior combat designer who is "fluent with the combat design choices, systems, mechanics, and enemies in God of War (2018) and God of War Ragnarok (2022)." It also requires the candidate to have "experience with the full development cycle of two or more published triple-A titles", furthering the idea that this is a large-scale production on the scope of a God of War sequel....
