Following the release of Doom: The Dark Ages earlier this year, as well as the presumed finale of the Doom 2016 reboot trilogy, id Software is already working on their next game.
A job posting on the ZeniMax website says that id Software is "seeking an experienced Lead Gameplay Features Programmer to join our Dallas team in the development of an unannounced video game project."
Most of the job posting is pretty vague, with the only aspect of note possibly hinting at the gameplay for the unannounced title:
Collaborate on the implementation of new gameplay features: player and characters’ behaviors, combat and powers mechanics, user interface, etc..
That description matches what we've seen recently from the Doom franchise, but it honestly could mean anything. We've seen so many modern FPS games emulate Doom's gameplay, and I wouldn't be surprised to see whatever id Software is working on next borrow from what made the modern Doom games so great.
Could id Software Be Working On A New Quake Game?
We can speculate all day on what this game could be, but there have been some hints and teasers over the past few years.
As great as the Doom games have been...
