Gaming has never been a particularly affordable hobby, but this console generation has only worsened matters. As game budgets and development times balloon out of control, game prices have gone up, too, with some games setting us back $80 a pop.

Amidst all of this, it looks like Hollow Knight: Silksong will be a breath of fresh air. Sure enough, it took Team Cherry a lot longer than we expected to make the game, but according to leaks, the game will be priced at $20. This is just $5 more than the first Hollow Knight game, which launched eight years ago.

Now, one fan has realised that this is actually not much of a price rise at all when adjusted for inflation. As pointed out by Reddit user bentleyk9, a US inflation calculator shows that $14.99 in 2017 has the same buying power as $19.88 in 2025. This means that, according to these calculations at least, Silksong is just 11 cents more than its predecessor.

Of course, when we're adjusting anything for inflation, we have to consider what this means in real terms. A lot of us probably haven't seen our pay increase with inflation, and may have struggled...
