September Will Have The Fewest Game Releases Of 2025 So Far, And It Could Be Thanks To Silksong

The hype surrounding Hollow Knight: Silksong is once in a console generation. Ahead of its reveal, rabid fans were scouring every part of the internet to find any clue they could, and following, indie developers began to slowly delay their titles in order to avoid Team Cherry's soon-to-be hit.

While few games have publicly announced that they are moving out of the way of Silksong, such as Baby Steps and a handful more, it seems that a bunch of other games may have done so quietly, as September 2025 is set to have the fewest game releases of the year so far, and long before that.

According to data we pulled from SteamDB (inspired by a tweet from Steamcito), September 2025 currently has 606 games scheduled for release on Steam. Last month, there were roughly 1,716 games released, and the month before that, 1,772.

In fact, every month this year has seen over 1,220 games released on Steam, more than double what is currently scheduled for this month.

We also examined whether this was a recurring theme over the past four Septembers, to ensure that this dip doesn't occur every year. It doesn't. September 2024 had 1,283 game...
