Amazon's Big Budget Tomb Raider Show Has Officially Found Its Lara Croft

Amazon's upcoming Tomb Raider TV series adaptation has officially unearthed its Lara Croft. Sophie Turner, who had long been rumoured to take the mantle, will be taking to the dangerous fringes of the world as the iconic PlayStation-originated gaming heroine when the show officially begins production on January 19, 2026.

Greenlit back in May '24, we've had a steady trickling of supposed intel over the past several months, but this is the first big drop, and arguably the most important one of all.

Sophie Turner fast became something of a household name when Game of Thrones proved itself a pop culture phenomenon. Turner played the role of young Sansa Stark for all eight seasons of HBO's Monolith. She also starred as Jean Grey in two X-Men films, Lauren Lane in Trust, Erica in Do Revenge, and Joan Hannington in the 2024 British crime drama miniseries Joan.

But back to Tomb Raider. Amazon revealed the aforementioned January 19 date to commence shooting the series, which means crews are undoubtedly deep into prep work by now. Phoebe Waller-Bridge serves as Tomb Raider's writer and overall creator, with Jonathan van Tulleken as director and a fellow executive producer.
