Last year, after EA revealed a new Skate game is in development, many wondered who would be making it. Now we know. The next Skate, known to fans as Skate 4 but to EA as apparently just Skate - for now at least - will be developed by Full Circle, a brand new studio built from the ground up to resurrect the beloved skateboarding series.
Daniel McCulloch, former Head of Xbox Live, will take over as general manager of Full Circle and oversee the team's debut project with unenviable expectations. “The fans wished Skate back into existence and we want them to feel involved in the process from development to game launch and beyond. We want them to feel like they are a part of Full Circle,” said McCulloch. “We’re all about having fun and making great games that people want to play with their friends. And, we’re looking for more developers to help us build compelling worlds for players to explore.”
Though the studio will be founded in Vancouver, the team encourages a distributed approach, meaning those on the team may be working from all over the world, not just during the pandemic, but even once office hours return. The team calls it geo-diversity.
Also on the team are returning Skate creative leaders, Deran Chung and Cuz Parry after both helped not only create the series, but each worked on all three games as well. “We’re so stoked to be back working on Skate,” the pair said. “Some would say things have come full circle,” the pair said in a statement, unable to avoid the pun.
Full Circle will share the city of Vancouver with many other studios, including EA sibling studio Respawn Entertainment. There's no date, gameplay, or any other details to share on Skate just yet, as clearly the team is still staffing up at the moment.
