The Pokemon Company has been getting very weird lately, which is doubtless designed to become its own unique talking point. The press is supposed to talk up the funky nature of these Pokemon Legends: Z-A teaser videos, and fans should unite in head-tilting anxiousness. In short, this stuff is built to go viral.
Well, I guess I'm doing my part, because I'm here to raise awareness of the latest big hint at the next Mega Evolution reveal. Look how strange this is. Look how utterly unhinged it is. "There are Malamar fans in big cities throughout the world, and we see you," they're saying. "Please discuss."
The video, somewhat ominously titled 'Malamar.mp4', is a 57-second fictional deep dive into the heights of Malamar fandom. There's a lovely graffiti Malamar unveiling, a guy surrounded by Malamar plush dolls who uses his beloved squid-like Pokemon as his life's inspiration, and a dancing dude at the end who keeps repeating the words "my friend Malamar" in hypnotic fashion. Truly, this is the New York City that I wish I had grown up in.
