In case you didn't know, Activision has officially given Paramount the green light to produce a live-action adaptation of Call of Duty.
While that in itself might be exciting news for franchise fans, did you know that there was a possibility at one point that the legendary Steven Spielberg would be the one to direct it?
This isn't something the suits at Activision were pushing for either, as Spielberg himself is a fan of the Call of Duty franchise.

The report comes from Puck, who mentions that according to "three sources," Spielberg allegedly wanted to direct Call of Duty given the director's endearment for the franchise. The deal breaker? It's said to be "top-of-market" economics, final cut and full control over production and marketing that spooked Activision, which is now owned by Microsoft.
Instead, Activision went with David Ellison’s pitch that offered the video game publisher more control over the film process.
