God of War is in a state of limbo at the moment, with nothing official from developer Sony Santa Monica for quite a whole, and rumors flying all over social media. We've been told by various insiders that a Greek-era side-project is in the works, which will apparently look like more of a Metroidvania, while there have also been rumblings about a new mainline God of War in development too.
A new job listing at Sony Santa Monica looking for people "fluent in the combat design choices, systems, mechanics, and enemies" of previous God of War games was our first tip-off, while Insider Gaming's Tom Henderson also recently claimed that the next big God of War game is in development.
That's all well and good, as a new God of War coming at some point was always going to happen, but the bigger question is what it's going to look like. God of War Ragnarök ended with Atreus heading off on his own to find the giants, while Kratos and Freya stayed behind to look after the Norse realm, so there are a lot of potential avenues for a story right there.
