Dying Light: The Beast finally gives us a proper explanation for The Following's depressing ending, which saw Kyle turn into a Volatile and seemingly lose his humanity.
One of the most interesting things about Dying Light: The Beast is that it brings back the original protagonist of the series, Kyle Crane, and lets us find out what happened to him in the years after the first game's expansion, The Following. The events of that expansion did bring up some major questions about how The Beast can even happen, though.
As you probably remember, The Following had two endings. One saw Kyle get completely nuked (which clearly isn't canon since he's alive in The Beast), while the other saw him turn into a Volatile. It was a very depressing end for the series' lead, but it almost seems like it's been retconned in The Beast.
Well, that actually isn't the case at all. While Crane isn't a Volatile in The Beast and is more like something in between, it does actually get explained on two separate occasions in the game. The first time isn't a spoiler, since it's revealed in the "Previously On Dying Light" video that's been shared before launch....
