There's An Official Grand Theft Auto History Class Before GTA 6 Has Even Released

Listen, it's no secret that school can be a drag. After all, several hours each day of math, history, grammar and everything in between for several months multiplied by several years is quite the run. Thankfully, there are video games to help break up the monotony, and some of them are even educational.

But what if a video game was the subject at school? Because that's exactly what's happening next year at the University of Tennessee, where "Grand Theft America: U.S. History Since 1980 through the GTA Video Games" is being offered to students.

Yes, you read that right. There's a real-life GTA history class. Oh, and it's coming before Grand Theft Auto 6 because, of course, it is.

As first reported by IGN, Tore Olsson, a history professor at Tennessee, will offer the course in the spring semester. In the course, Olsson will utilize Grand Theft Auto's "world as the framing device for a serious history class that examines what’s actually taken place in the United States over the last half-century."

The course is a follow-up to his Red Dead Redemption American history course, making Olsson the de facto video game professor.
