Borderlands has a reputation for pretty crass humor, that has been exemplified over the past couple of releases. Understanding that maybe fans of the series were getting sick of toilet humor and decade-old memes, Gearbox made a pretty conscious effort to scale things back for Borderlands 4, with narrative director Sam Winkler famously saying that he would "cry real tears" if a Skibidi Toilet reference made it into the game on his watch.
For the most part, Winkler made good on his promise, as while there are plenty of silly references in Borderlands 4, there isn't a Skibidi Toilet or a Hawk Tuah to be seen. You'd assume that this would please most fans out there that thought the Borderlands series was getting a little too crass, but we all know that spite can be one of the world's greatest motivators.
Unfortunately, Winkler might want to bust out the tissues, because one Borderlands 4 player has done what Gearbox said they would never do and has taken it upon themselves to add Skibidi Toilet to the game (thanks Eurogamer).
