"God... This Looks Awful": Deus Ex Remastered's Announcement Trailer Has Horrified Players

I'm a massive fan of Deus Ex, which is why my ears immediately perked up during last night's State of Play when I heard the original game's title music playing.

That music, of course, accompanied the announcement of Deus Ex Remastered, the newest remaster project from Aspyr. The studio has almost exclusively been releasing remasters and ports for several years, with Tomb Raider I-VI and Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection being two recent examples.

Unfortunately for Aspyr, the announcement trailer has not been well-received by fans, who are critical of the "upgraded" visuals.

"God... this looks awful," writes Jusanom; "Am I the only one who thinks this looks kind of bad? Kind of reminds me of those GTA remasters that looked like the originals with a plastic filter," asks Inches666; "Oh man, look how they massacred my boy," jokes VoxCeleste.

Several comments also express disappointment that Aspyr was chosen to develop the remaster instead of Nightdive Studios. The latter has become popular among immersive sim fans for its high-quality remasters of System Shock and System Shock 2.

I'll admit, my first impression when I saw the trailer was that Aspyr's remaster does look strange in places....
