Hades 2 Broke The Original Game's Peak Player Count Within Minutes Of Leaving Early Access

Hades 2 has officially left early access and got its full release on Thursday. Clearly, a lot of you were very eager to jump into the finished sequel, as not only did Hades 2 smash the first game's concurrent player count on Steam almost immediately, but its first day peak comfortably cleared the highest number the original Hades ever achieved.

Hades 2 launched on Steam and Nintendo Switch 2 at midday on Thursday. Exactly how well it's doing on Switch 2 won't become clear until sales numbers are revealed, which could take some time, but its success on Steam can be tracked in real-time thanks to SteamDB. Within the first hour of its full release, more than 60,000 people were playing Hades 2 on Steam.

That's an impressive number all by itself, particularly for a single-player indie game. What makes the feat significantly more remarkable is that the number it hit during its first hour is bigger than the original Hades managed during its entire run. The first game peaked at 54,000 players in May 2024, a surge in players that was seemingly brought on by the early access release of Hades 2.
