Helldivers 2 Peak Player Count Drops By Over 100,000 Amid Performance Problems

Earlier this month, Helldivers 2's recent Steam reviews dropped to 'Mixed' as players complained of performance issues so severe that the game had been rendered borderline unplayable for many. It's hardly surprising then that its peak player count has also plummeted, dropping from 178,000 to 64,000 in the last month alone.

The game took a similar dip in July, but the Xbox launch reinvigorated the community and resulted in its highest player figures since launch. But even this huge influx of players on a brand-new platform hasn't been able to lessen the blow PC is taking right now.

Developer Arrowhead did state on Discord that a patch is due in mid-October, which will include "some key crash fixes", "long overdue bug fixes", and "minor performance improvements", but with the file size ballooning past 140GB, and similar promises being made as recently as June, the community isn't convinced.

CEO Shams Jorjani stated earlier this year that the team was "focusing 100% on bug fixing and optimisation", but admitted in August that they are not "planning any dedicated only performances [sic] update", and that they "won't fix everything".
