I was all prepped and ready to hate Battlefield 6's inevitable live action trailer. I really was. In my view, the constant celebritity-sporting nature of them is utterly cringe-inducing. It doesn't help that I seldom know who most of these people even are, but I suspect that's more of a "me" problem. Still, it's a factor.
I'm proud to report that I recognized a record two out of the four celebs here. But it doesn't matter. What matters is that EA's marketing team knows how overplayed this approach has become, and they kicked off their live action tidbit by saying so. Loudly enough, in fact, that the folks at Activision probably heard those shots fired from across the map.
The trailer clocks in at just shy of two minutes in length, though the last stretch is filled with the obligatory purchase info that comes at the end of every game trailer ever. While I'm genuinely impressed with everything shown after the 24-second mark - no, seriously, the special effects work here is top-notch! - it's that first 24 seconds that'll draw the most attention from popcorn-emoji-wielding sorts.
Zac Efron. Jimmy Butler. Morgan Wallen....
