Don’t Expect Potential Ghost Of Yotei Sequels To Be Set Outside Of Japan, Sucker Punch Reveals

If there's one thing that Sucker Punch is known for, aside from being responsible for two of PlayStation's biggest mascots, it's developing a franchise and sticking with it. On the PlayStation 2, that franchise was Sly Cooper, and on the PlayStation 3, it was Infamous. Now, in the PlayStation 4 and 5 eras, it's the Ghost franchise, beginning with Ghost of Tsushima on PS4 and soon Ghost of Yotei on PS5.

As Ghost of Yotei inches toward its scheduled October 2 release, Sucker Punch was asked if it could ever envision a "Ghost" title set anywhere other than Japan. The short answer: No.

As first spotted by GamesRadar, via a roundtable discussion attended by UnGeek, studio head Brian Fleming shared just how integral Japan is to the Ghost franchise. So much so that Sucker Punch couldn't envision going anywhere else.

"We believe the core of Ghost is someone wielding a katana. That’s part of the essence," Fleming said. "We can’t imagine a Ghost game set in, say, feudal Europe. That doesn’t make sense. There are plenty of games set there, but that’s not what a Ghost game is."
