With some very obscure games from the past being selected for remake and remaster duty, it feels like almost nothing is off limits when it comes to unexpected revivals. That has sparked hope among Sonic fans that one day, Sonic Adventure and its sequel might be remade or remastered for modern platforms. Unfortunately, that's probably not going to happen, at least not while Takashi Iizuka is in charge.
Sonic Team boss Iizuka spoke with the BBC to celebrate the launch of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, and with Sega working on various revivals of games like Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio, the Sonic Adventure games, and potential remasters for a modern audience, were discussed.
Not only does Iizuka claim Adventure remakes/remasters are not something currently in development at Sega, but his answer suggests they never will be. "Instead of using all that time and energy to remake a game that people have already experienced, we could make a brand new game instead," Iizuka explained.
