Last year, the Autumn Sale ran from late November into early December - a date that Valve likely thought was too close to their winter sale season. At least according to PC Gamer.
Having announced an earlier start date for the fall sales back in February, Valve's desired time window has officially arrived. If you want to get in on the action, you'll have until the 6th of October to get your shopping done.
