The Lord of the Rings is an absolutely massive franchise that just doesn't seem to have much luck in the video game sphere. Not only did we get Tales of the Shire earlier this year, which was quickly lambasted by both critics and fans, but a couple of years ago, we also got The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, which is widely considered as one of the worst games to launch this decade.

Once upon a time, we did have good games about The Lord of the Rings, with Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor being one of the better high-budget examples. It shows that it's very possible to make a good Lord of the Rings game, and now, another developer is reportedly ready to take a crack at it, though this time with a pretty large amount of cash behind it.

In a new report by Insider Gaming, it's claimed that this mystery developer has been working on a Lord of the Rings game since last year, and that sources close to the game have said that it's going to be partially funded by the Abu Dhabi Investment Office to the tune of around $100 million.
