For gamers of a certain age, long before the age of streaming and illegal website hosts, some of the most hyped events (largely sports related) were relegated to pay-per-view, which is exactly what its namesake implies — paying a fee (usually pretty high) for the ability to watch something live.

That practice has largely since decreased, but it seems like Capcom is attempting to revive it with the upcoming Capcom Cup 12 Finals event featuring Street Fighter 6. Naturally, fans aren't happy, and, honestly, we can't blame them. Somehow, it also isn't the first controversy related to the Capcom Cup, either.

To start, Capcom's fighters account announced that its Capcom Cup 12 Finals and SFL: World Championships would be on PPV, with free streams coming later on.

Immediately following that announcement, gamers took to the Street Fighter sub to share their displeasure at being charged to watch what was once a free community event.

"I ain't paying for that," one of the top comments read.

Others questioned why the event was being a PPV when the events sell tickets, have advertisements and the game itself is rife with costumes and other bits of DLC that would, in theory, allow...
