I'm sure you've come across ads for fake games on Instagram or TikTok. You know the ones I'm talking about, where the ad shows you fake gameplay which looks nothing like the game that you're redirected to, and it ends up being some bland freemium game that forces you to use real money.
Well, it seems they've now evolved into fake ads for real games. Games Marvel Rivals and The First Descendant faced a lot of flack for these kinds of ads, with the latter even using the likeness of real streamers, edited via AI. Now it seems that the same thing is happening to Hollow Knight: Silksong, but for something that doesn't even exist – a mobile version of the game that can be downloaded without internet. What a time to be alive!
As spotted by GamesRadar, it seems these ads are some sort of scam which lure prospective targets in with the hopes of getting one of the standout games of the year for free on their mobile. "What if I told you that you don't need a PC, a console, or even the internet to enjoy it?" says a presumably AI-created voiceover on the YouTube ad.
